Q: Should I advertise in print or online?
A: That depends entirely upon your needs and desired target audience. Please view the information about advertising in The Writers’ Chronicle, in the AWP Conference Program, and on the AWP website to compare audiences and prices.
Q: Will my ad be placed on all pages in a tier?
A: No. Your add will be placed on one of the pages or sections within a tier. For example, if you pay for a first tier advertisement, the ad will be placed on the Guide, WC&C, Job List, Calendar, or Chronicle index pages.
Q: Do you have click-through statistics?
A: No. Our website statistics counter counts hits & unique visitors, and keeps a short log of pages visited. However, we do not have any way of telling where a visitor clicked or went after leaving our site. Providing such information would mean increasing the cost of ads. Detailed estimated visitor counts for each page/section are available upon request.
Q: Can advertisements be animated?
A: Absolutely, so long as the advertisement conforms to the established file sizes (30 KB max for a button and 45 KB max for a skyscraper).
Q: May I choose which page will display my advertisement?
A: Yes. You will purchase placement in the First Tier or Second Tier. If you wish for a specific page within a tier, please specify that at the time of purchase. Otherwise, we will place your ad on the most popular available page.
Q: On which page should I place my advertisement?
A: This depends upon many factors including: the subject of your ad, the number of visitors you wish to see your ad, the time of the year, and page space availability. See the tier information page for summaries and images of available pages. Check with our Advertising department if you need more information.
Q: Are there any public pages of your site on which I can advertise?
A: Yes. Your ad will appear on one members-only page (eLink) and one public page.
Q: Can I advertise on the main page of your website?
A: The buttons which appear on the bottom of the main AWP public website are added only at the discretion of our director. That section of our site is not part of the online advertising program.
Q: What sizes of advertisements do you allow? What are the ad requirements?
A: Requirements:
- Dimensions: 150 W x 150 H–pixels (button)
150 W x 450 H–pixels (skyscraper)
- File size: 30 KB max (button)
45 KB max (skyscraper)
- Resolution: 72 dpi
- File types: .gif, .jpeg, .png
- Client must provide URL to which the ad will be linked
Q: I don’t have a URL. May I have the ad link to an e-mail address instead?
A: Yes. When sending the image, specify you must specify the e-mail address.
Q: What are the tiers?
A: The tiers dictate the price and placement of your ad (not the size of it).
Q: What are the differences between the First and Second tiers?
A: First Tier pages include the Guide, WC&C, and Job List index pages. These are AWP's most popular sections of the website, and thus advertisements on these pages stand the best chance to be seen by our site visitors. Second Tier pages include the Calendar and Chronicle index pages. These are busy but still less popular sections on our site. See the tier information page for more information.
Q: Will AWP create an advertisement for me?
A: Yes. We can create a basic text ad for you, if desired.
Q: May I purchase online advertising space for more than 2 months at a time?
A: Yes, you may.
Q: May I purchase online advertising space for less than 2 months at a time?
A: Yes, you may.
Q: Can my advertisement appear on more than one page on your site?
A: All ads will appear on two pages (for example, the public Job List page and the eLink Job List index page). However, if you wish for your ad to appear on both the Chronicle and the Job List pages, for example, you must purchase two placements, one for each section.
Q: Can I move my advertisement from one page to another?
A: You may move your ad from one page to another within the same tier. This might be a good option if space frees up on a page during your online advertising run or if you believe another page might be more popular during the remainder of your run.
